Canine Overheating and Bloat

Warning for all Dog Lovers:  With coming warm months, "bloat" is a common symptom that can take the life of your dog in just hours.   After taking a hike or run, be sure to check that your dog is not panting more than usual.   If so, this is a sign that your dog cannot cool down which can cause "Bloat".   If the body temperature does not cool down, the dog's stomach flips around causing a blockage and a bloated look to the stomach as the stomach expands. . .and in just hours your dog can die.
To prevent bloat, if your dog is panting on a hot day, quickly hose your dog off to bring body temperature down.   It's that easy.   However, if panting persists, this means the stomach has already flipped so you must get to a veterinarian immediately.  This is another reason I strongly recommend that you DO NOT leave your dog in the car on warm or sunny days.   Just 20 minutes sitting in a hot car can mean game over for your precious dog.  Leave them at home on warm or sunny days.
Please be smart. . .your loving animals rely on YOU to do the right thing.
I want to thank Barbara and Ginger for this important message.   Barbara is a close friend, who shared this tragic situation and educated me about "bloat".   Gone just two days on a recent business trip, the young man who took Barbara's precious Ginger for a run, did not know about bloat and did not recognize the signs.   A result, precious Ginger passed on Saturday.
